Adhyay 1 - Shri Hari Vishnu Orders to take birth

Shri Ganeshay Namah. Our prayers to god of knowedge Shri Ganesh, Shri Saraswati, karyasiddhi pradayini Renuka, Narsimh Narayan kuldaivat of Dev mamledar Shri Yashwantrao maharaj. With their blessings we hope this charitra in English will bless the generations and generations to come.

We are certain; they will experience Dev mamledar’s blessings and will take karya forward.

Birth of saints is supernatural phenomena.

Shri Narayan Deshpande was a vatandar at village Bhose, Pandharpur. As a minister (Jahgirdar or Sardar) entire village taxation was under Narayanrao. Narsinh was a family god (kuldaivat). Narayanrao and his wife were blessed with a piously enriched son named Dhundiraj. People would call him Dhondopant.

After his father the village Vatandari was passed to him. He too was Devotional. He was engrossed in helping the weak and poor. He would give shelter to the pilgrims(Warkari) and travelers of the favorite god of entire Maharashtra and the saints, Lord Pandharinatha. Similarly he would also distribute food and gratify people.Dhondopant’s wife was also a virtuous woman. But in their world they were lacking in one thing. Due to this both husband wife were dejected. They did not have any children yet.

We would have to seek shelter of Lord Narsinha”. He immediately brought his thoughts to action. Every Saturday he would visit Narsinhapur with his wife. Both would pray with compassion “Oh Lord of the Lords, save the dignity of our dynasty. Oh Narsinha give us the light for our family.”

Days after days passed by, but the prayers were not yet blessed. Many Saturdays passed away. Nor one or two but seven years every Saturday the couple travelled to Narsinhapur. But ……. Finally one day Lord Narsinha appeared in the Dhondopant’s dream and said, “Now you don’t take the pain to come to me every Saturday. I would only come and reside in your home”. Later Dhondopant found an idol of Lord Narsinha in holy Tulsi (Basil) plant’s pot of his house. Votive Prayers were fulfilled and soon they were blessed with baby boy. He was named Mahadev.

Mahadevpant got married with Haridevi, the daughter of Shree Balaji Makaji Vajape, administrator of Mankeshwar who the Prime Minister of PeshwaJijavajirao of Pune district. Haridevi was also and religious. Both were passionate, virtuous. They were charitable and would worship and honor saints and guests. One day bright Brahmins arrived at their home. With hospitality she offered them food. The Brahmins blessed her saying, “May you be blessed with eight sons. One of them will show path to all!” After that Mahadev had eight sons namely Dada, Yashwant, Manohar, Aaba, Ramchandra, Prahlad, Vasudev and Balram and one daughter named Sakhu.

Mahadev’s second son Yashwant is the incarnation. Incarnation of saints is properly planned by the Lord of Universe for a specific purpose. After some time passed since Lord Vishnu’s worshiperDamajipant from Mangalvedha village arrived at Vaikunth (Lord Vishnu’s Paradise), Lord Vishnu told him “On Earth, people are spending money on sinful activities, so to teach people compassion you take incarnation.”Damajipant said “Lord, what would be my role”

Lord replied, “I would not make you wealthy. You borrow wealth from people and use it for religious activities. So that both the things would be satisfied. Firstly the money going towards sinful activities would be directed towards you and secondly you would appropriately use it for the poor and needy. People giving wealth would be blessed and sufferings of the poor and needy would also disappear. The way milkman milks the cow with his own hands and puts milk in vessel. The vessel in spite of holding the milk remains independent. Go and start your journey”

After narrating the above background of Heroic character’s incarnation Saint Poet Shree DasganuMaharaj said – “Thus past history | in dreams tells Lord|| The same I narrated to spectators | It was not from my imagination||23||”

Mahadev got 1st son, he named him as Dada. When Haridevi was expecting for the second time, Mahadevpant was getting intense happiness while fulfilling her cravings, because the cravings were like that! “Food distribution, gifting the desired things, Chanting of Lord Hari’s name and Devotional songs, all should happen frequently at our house” would say Haridevi and Pant would fulfill them with fondness. In eighth month Haridevi got call from her mother’s house.

She came to Pune.Vajape family resided in Omkar Wada in ShaniwarPeth. Here only as per Hindu Calendar in Shalivahan Shake 1737 year, Bhadrapad Month, ShuddhaDashami, Wednesday, on the onset of sunrise, Haridevi gave birth to her second son. Everywhere there was joyous environment.

Regarding maharaj’sbirth date some records say as 13th August 1815 as per English Calendar, but politely say that they are wrong becauseBhadrapad month’s SukhlaDashami never comes even near about 13th August. After mathematics, expert advice and letters to famous mathematicians and astrologists, the date is arrived as 13th September 1815.

Yashwanta was obideint, sincere and polite. He was always ready to help the poor students. If someone didn’t have a writing reed he would come and tell Yashwant, immediately Yashwant would give his ownwriting reed to him. If some student didn’t have money for paper, Yashwant would give his own paper to the other student. If somebody is worn out of ink, he would get ink from Yashwant.

Yashwant became eight years old. As per Hindu calendar in Shake 1746, Jyestha month, vadyapratipada day, at tenth Ghatak(A period of sixty pala or twenty-four minutes), Mahadevpant performed Yashwant’s thread (Upanayana) ceremony.

His clear handwriting in Hemand pant Modi script would catch everyone’s attention. Engrossed in studies, family rituals and worshipping god, Yashwant starting looking more serious day by day.Aura on face, bright but merciful eyes, perfect body, Hari’s name in mouth; anyone seeing all this would think ‘he is rebirth of a very holy Yogbhrashta. He has come to Mahadevpant’s house to uplift the mankind.’

Once Jivaji Bapuji Deshpande from Tembhurni village saw Yashwant in teenage. And he immediately decided with his mind to make this bright child as son-in-law.

Soon as per Hindu Calendar in Shake 1749, Falgun month, vadyaSaptami, Friday, on Goraj auspicious time Yashwant and Sundari got married. That time Sundari was six years old.Jivajiraoperformed the marriage event with great pomp and show. He gave son-in-law 750 rupees as the bridegroom price. Sundari of father’s house became Rukmini in her in-laws house. On occasion of this marriage both the parties donated lot of food. Their gifts lasted for very long time in both “Bhose” and “Tembhurni” villages.

Adhyay 2 - Swami Samarth’s blessings

Yashwant was staying with his maternal uncle at Kopargaon. His self exploration, purpose of life continued.

Soon in 1829 as per English calendar due to his maternal uncle’s effort Yashwant got a temporary job as a transferable clerk in Yeola.Yashwant came to Yeola. He had company of his maternal uncle and Godavari mother in Kopargaon.

Time flew away and two years passed away.In 1931 as per English Calendar, Collector of Nagar district happened to halt at Yeola for government work. All subordinate officers had gathered there. TakingYashwant along Narayanrao met the collector and applied for job. Seeing the fantastic handwriting and accurate work done as a rotating clerk by Yashwant, in that stay duration itself Collector ordered for his appointment. MahadevKulkarni’s (Accountant’s) son Yashwantknown as YashwantMahadevBhosekarstarted earning Rs. 10/- per month in government job designated as a clerk in Yeola. Even though Yashwant got the job, after that he didn’t neglect his work nor did he go away from the Supreme Lord. Otherwise a 16 year old boy after getting a job would become excited and even get mislead but this was not the case with him.

With his sincerity and attention to details he took command on the subject and became go to person.

Recognizing his talent and efforts, Yashwant got transferred to ParnerTaluka’s office and his salary got increased. Yashwant worked excellently with responsibility for 5 years in Parner. Parner’s stay proved revolutionary for Yashwant’s spiritual life.

Due to job there was always outstation stay involved, this was understood by everyone. So if Yashwantrao stays alone he would have difficulty for cooking his food daily. Seeing this chaste Sundarabai, alsoknown as Rukminidevi arrived at Parner.WithSundarabai’s arrival Yashwantrao could worship guests, etc regularly, withdivalent and more easily.Mahadevpant and Haridevi also started coming in between and would stay for some days. One-two brothers also started to come and go frequently.Yashwantrao started spending some time in meditation now.

He started getting more time for meditation, self exploration. Abstract knowledgeas stated in ancient religious scriptures is also gained.

But, But he was becoming more and more restless day by day. He started feeling the vacumm of Satguru, authority person, one who will show him the way.

In his continous call to Satguru in restless mind, he became weak. Every now and then questions started appearing on the mind. Am I on the right path, Will I get Satguru, Who will be him and many. On one day when in the same state he went for bed. In the dreams he came across anubhuti, violet color tinge started coming and one tejasvi bald Mahapurush appeared sitting in front. Ajanubahu, digambar, sitting holding the Right lap on Left lap. But sole of the feet were touching the ground. Huge forehead, eyes sparkling like diamond, sharp and fearless vision ….!

That Mahapurush said, “Son,, don’t get scared. Take this useful thing”, keeping one Shaligram on Yashwantrao’s hand he said, “Pray this with devotion, your wish would be fulfilled.” Later he vanished away.

Yashwantrao woke up in high energy mood. All the questions were vanished. Then early dawn started. He started chanting Vishnu Sahasranaam and started getting up with support of his hands. But what’s this? …… below the palm of hand there seems to be hard object. He took his hand besides and what? ….. “Shaligram”, Yes Shaligram only. Then the dream which I saw was a dream or a was it the state of mind in dreamless sleep? The Shaligram given by the Mahapurush is in reality with me. How can I call it a dream? It’s a Sakshatkar! Shaligram is my hands. Awadhut Chintan Shri Gurudev Datt.

Yashwantrao started feeling completely fresh. This change in Yashwantrao was of delight to everybody. From that day onwards, he kept the Shaligram in daily Puja and were waiting for what is next. Few days later, The Mahapurush who gave Shaligram again appeared in dream and he ordered, “With the Shaligram come and meet me. I am currently residing at Mangalvedha/Akkalkot.” Yashwantrao woke up. Now he became restless. In his spiritual fortune success had grown.Sadguru told his whereabouts. Now relaxing would not do. He finished his Daily duties of a Brahmin. After for leave, with the Shaligram started for Mangalvedha.

ParampadiSangamPurnajhala Visaru Kasa mi Guru Padukela (Confluence with the Sadguru is fulfilled, how can I forget worshipping Guru):

As Mangalvedha started approaching, Yashwantrao’s cravings started increasing. “Will Gurumauli accept me near him or How would he identify me, will he believe if I narrate him about Shaligram,How will I break the ice?”

He arrived at a Wada. That Mahapurush was sitting in front as if historic meeting was planned. He was sitting in the same position even now as seen in the dream two times. Same Accomplished-Pose, Same ajanubahu, same sharp vision, same sparkling eyes, same huge forehead!

Yashwantrao got entranced, could not utter words from his mouth, eyes did not believe and mind was clueless! Finally he came to consciousness with Swami’s words! “Hey, did you bring the Shaligram Narsinha with you?” Yashwantrao got assured with the identification. He humbly took out the Shaligram and flung his body on Swami’s feet. Swami looked towards him with kindness and said, “I will continue your previous journey…..” Later Swami placed hand on Yashwant’s forehead and ….

Many Light seemed within the forehead. At the back from Downside to top lightning occurred and got merged with the light in forehead. In that everything was there. The nature, mother earth , God was there, demon was there, Man was there, animal was there, every living and non-living thing in the world was there.Swam in everything. This experience was unprecedented.Myths to truth and truths to myth, this was being known by that! “

He literally experienced the facmous Sanskrit sentence “Aham Bramhasmi…” The universe is with in me.

Yashwantrao said, “ Swami you are God (dev). Today I have become filled with divinity. Filled with God Swami.”

Shripad Shrivallabh Swami Samarth, giving blessings in jolly said, “Hey, you are saying too much of God (Dev) , Dev today. Wait a while, people will call you Dev”. (Later maharaj became famous as Dev Mamledar) Saying this with love Swami slapped him with love and within afraction of a second, saw in front of him tremendous light like in lightning. Swami in that! In front of Swami he himself! Many Light merged together. In Place of Swami, an ascetic with pinkish skin with stick and waterpot! Again Lights move, some bright sparks!! Instead of Ascetic ‘three head and six hands’ started appearing and immediately the Shankhachakradhari, Lord Shri Hari Vishnu and in front of him Damajipant started appearing. Slowly slowly …Yashwantrao’sstate of Samadhi thoughts were getting lower. He came to consciousness and said “Hey God of all the Gods, today I have become blessed, in reality I got Vaikunth’s king itself as gurudev. Hey Narsinha God, Narsinhasaraswati, Dattatreyapandharinatha, Swami Samartha, my crore and crores of namaskar to you!!”

Two days Yashwantrao prayed Swami’s with all devotion, Offered naivedya, dakshina, etc. Later applied Swami’s feet’s dust to his forehead and with heart filled happiness he said :-

Whose extensiveness is in all living and non-living |
He met me entirely ||
Confluence with the Supreme is accomplished |
How would I forget Guru’s lotus feet impressions ||

Swami ordered him to proceed for his actual purpose. Maharaj took blessing and started for his real journey.

Adhyay 3 - From clerk to Revenue Officer (Mamledar)

Raosaheb (used here for Yashwantrao) was performing his job very meticulously.

A clerk gave message “Very senior officials are visting the office and they have asked you to come early to office tomorrow.”

Clerk himself visited at late hours at home so there must be serious reason. Yes, the reason for this was also like that only. Revenue Commissioner was currently halted at Amalner and registrar officer had started thorough inspection of Raoshaeb’s work as a regular audit. Raosaheb thought that there would be some work in that regard. Inspection of records was not new to him. In past twenty years that was always happening. Inspection could be thorough or superficial, but Raosaheb’s aptness in records and work would stand out. He remembered many past inspections…. In year 1836 he got promoted and transferred from Parner to Karjat. Treasurer work in a way is risky! But with spiritual knowledge and guru’s blessings entire world appears with same feelings which are expressed through all aspects of life.Either it is work or behavior honesty was never disregarded. Everything was done with a sense of Duty. So as a treasurer even with thorough inspection there was never any mistake found in work. This proved beneficial to me. The work at Karjat was praised by senior officials and then got the order … Promoted as head clerk! Salary Rs. 20! The orders were signed by assistant collector of Parner division.

Honesty was never left. Stooping was never accepted.Help was not refused to anyone. Politeness was never absent and Parmarth? That was kept pure always! The purity in puja was brought in practical life, brought in job, saw god in work, saw god in officer, could see god even in peon and in prisoner! While doing puja you cannot pretend, you cannot anger, honesty is needed, faith is needed, emotions are needed! What is not acceptable in puja, is not acceptable anywhere. What is acceptable in puja that only should be compulsorily maintained everywhere. We got this intelligence, idea through continuous namsmaran only. This is only the meditation! This is only the life’s votive! . . . . That’s the reason at every place I got in good books of seniors and respect from people. . . . then in year 1840 there was a change! From head clerk post deputed as a revenue officer in kanalade of NashirabadTulaka in Khandesh. For this Shree BappajiAmrut was responsible. How?The affection between both of us. He was secretary of Collector of Khandesh. There were some newsections(small talukas) formed in Khandesh and for those sections revenue officers were to be appointed. Bappaji recommended my name and then got orders in hand to join duty as revenue officer in Kanalade on 16th September 1840. Salary Rs. 35/-. I am climbing one one step of spirituality and profession. Like a bright light on head! In that amazing but charming Darshan, constantly happening Darshan, vision in surroundings of moving aroundinvisible Wind god and deities, ancestors, ghosts, sometimes womendeities!People coming in for Darshan, help, satisfying hunger, graciously enquiring about all the arrived Saints, hermits, travelers . . . . . and job? That also going on in same way.

After one year got appointed as junior assistant of Collector of Khandesh; Why?BappajiAmrut was a man of presumption. He should get help in his assistant work, with this reason he appointed me as junior assistant. True reason he called in private and told “Saints like you are scarce in government job, so as much possible trying to gain your company.”

Later promotion in year 1851.From the registrar office asregistrarRaobahadurRamchandraAmbadas also known as Guruji retired and started getting pension, in that vacant position I was appointed. Salary was increased and became Rs. 45. The way liabilities increased, administration also increased.Due to liabilities became polite and due to administration became busy. Held many inspections, and explained them their mistakes. Could hear praise from senior officials. Was getting affection from colleagues. Was getting respect from juniors. Was getting devotion from people.Would have pleasurable vision of Shree Swami Samartha.Union with Dattatreya through spiritual worship was overflowing. God Nahari’s blessing hands, virtuous and husband devoted Sundarbai were helping for achieving Parmarth.Service towards Mother, Father, guests, needy was going on.

Then again change! In year 1853 work as a registrar got praised and this report went to collector and got an order to join duty at Chalisgaon! As a Revenue Officer (Mamledar) of Chalisgaon province.Increase in work load, administration, powers and salary! Salary became Rs. 80 but still there was nothing kept behind. Whatever is acquired is by Narayan’s blessings , then let it go to Narayan only. He is there in all the living entities! Then let it go in the form of food, in the form of donation, in the form of help to the “Nar” (person) in form of Narayan. Sometimes there would also be little loan, but loan taker is also him, spender is also him, acceptor is also him and one to repay is also him. Due to this experience I never got worried.

Now people had started calling me Raosaheb, but Narayan did not let me touch the arrogance in “Rao” and the boastfulness in “Saheb”. Common people in Chalisgaon province started calling as “ParopkariRaosaheb” with showers of love, respect and faith. And the recognition of this respect and faith came. Two years ago got transferred here. At that time? “Raosaheb you come to Amalner. We have become orphans now. We would get many ‘Raosaheb’ but will not get a ‘family member’ like you.” For fraction of a second I also was moved and was tempted. But ….But …..didn’t want to get attracted for anyone.Janardan was not only for Chalisgaon, but also for Amalner. Actually No…. he would meet wherever I go. Finally requested villagers to return back who cameup to six miles to leave.

Now in Amalnerthe journey behind itself continued further. Charity, religion, guest worship, needy villager, traveler’s contentment, and office work everything is going on a sense of duty. Salary increased and became Rs 125 and with that charity also increased. From the time Swami Samartha showed the extensivenessof “Who me” and “ME”, divergent feelings never came to mind.Treated everyone equal politely. And Sundara? She is chaste! NoNo, but actually an idol of husband worship! With the soul goes body and same way she is with me. Offering food to guests, traveler’s contentment, house work, for these she doesn’t think about day or night. Doesn’t think about right or wrong time. Even in my absence, she completes all things perfectly. If Chapter thirtyone from Gurucharitra was to be binded in form of Human body, then Statue that would result in would be of Sundara’s. She never grumbled. Never even got irritate when she had to prepare food for guests at any odd times. She took whatever was given and gave whatever was demanded. She stayed in all conditions. No craving for jewelry. No liking to show off. No laziness in duty.In reality her sacrifice is bigger than my sacrifice. In spite of giving birth to three Sons and fourth Daughter, no one lived beyond 3 months. ‘Narayan Gave and he only took them to heaven’, as soon as these words were uttered by me, she controlled her tears. ‘All of the beggars, saints, ascetics, diseased, guests, travelers, needy villagers, helpless women and children coming to our house, serve them considering as your children and move ahead’ She firmly believed this principle of mine and has swallowed the misery of being childless. Now both of us have to go ahead like this only. Keep on walking . . . Towards the eternal . . . with the wish of the eternal . . . Hey Narayan all our actions . . . all transactions. . . all respiration . . . all struggle be for the benefit of others. . . Narayan.Narayan.Narayan. . .

‘Now would have some food?’ Sundarabai came near and asked and Raosaheb’strance broke. Post dinner, he went to Devghar and did small meditation. He assured everything was proper in front of the God and after coming out finished his dinner. He instructed Sundarabai to do the Puja preparation early in morning for next day.

In morning after completing morning bath, puja and sandhya, Raosaheb came to office. Registrar RaobahadurKeshavRamchandra Jog was sitting on the chair. After greeting each other Jog said – ‘Raosaheb, forgive me. I am your culprit.’ ‘Raobahadursaheb what are you talking? If there is any mistake in the official records then I should only ask for forgiveness.’ Raosaheb said politely. ‘No, No Raosaheb. I am talking the right thing, I was hearing about your charity, calmness and forgiveness since many days. I got doubt in my mind. That these good qualities would be adversely affecting the revenue office related work. Also my mind got filled with doubt and jealousy. It became polluted. To teach you a lesson, with jealous intention itself purposely I initiated this inspection when Commissioner was here. I did inspection with a bad mind. I stayed awake whole night. I am an inspector who has seen many summer-rainy seasons! I can guess where there could be a mistake in Records, mistake in vision and Intentional mistakes! But . . But . . You didn’t give my pencil thefortune to mark a cross anywhere. Against my mind I was marking all correct. . . I was removing the dozing state and was getting up and sitting again and again properly. Even after inspection of all the records, I was turning back and seeing all over again . . I dozed at dawn time and I heard the words ‘What are you doing! Are you inspecting the light of the Sun?’! I opened my eyes and saw everywhere but didn’t see anyone. From that moment all the jealousy, doubt, everything I had in mind vanished.Heart melted and got guilty feeling. So I am saying that I am talking the appropriate thing . . .’

‘Lord Narayan does welfare of all people. He will do yours also. Om NamohNarayana! Come, we should give the news to Commissioner.’ Raosaheb said looking outside. Afterwards both of them got up and started walking towards Commissioner’s house.

In around a month he received the orders of transfer. As the Revenue Officer (Mamledar) of Aerandol! Salary Rs. 175/- . It was the result of stringent Inspection. This pleasant change! Yashwantrao has become Mamledar now!

But people in Amalner was moved.Because he was going to get transferred. Amalner villagers prayed votivelyto SakharamMaharaj’s Samadhi on the banks of river Bori ‘God, Bring this saint back to this village.’ Somebody came and told about the prayers being made to SakharamMaharaj’sSamdhi. To that Maharaj said. – ‘I am just one leaf floating on this infinite ocean! But prayers with true devotion will not go waste.’ Listeners were contented. Their faces brightened up. They saw ray of hope in Maharaj coming back to Amalner.

From the time Shree YashwantraoMahadevBhosekar arrived in Aerandol, the hustle and bustle at office and Wada of revenue officer had increased.

Now read below episode carefully and remind this in the later section. In few days one battalion basement came near Aerandol. The battalion had to march towards Savda district immediately. But the money for expenditure was over! The colonel of the battalion was in dilemma. No money for expenditure! Reputation of government is at stake. At last colonel came to Revenue Officer’s office. He explained is problem to Raosaheb. Saint Raosaheb started thinking – ‘money can be given for government expenses from treasure, but only till five thousand. Colonel’s requirement is of thirty thousand! That’s not in my authority. Till I receive orders from Collector I cannot do that. But . . But . . what about the provision of food to the battalion soldiers? But is it proper to send back the army officer in difficulty in such ashamed manner? With no orders, taking out big amount of money from government’s treasure is against the law. But this is an unexampled situation of crisis. What’s my duty?To break the rules and help officer by giving money from government treasure or to obey the rules and demonstrate helplessness to officer! . . . Rules, Law . . . Order . . . What the ultimate purpose of all these? Good management only right? Here good management itself is in problem. Rules are the cause not the target! By sticking to thecause if the target is in danger then the cause itself should be moved away. The army is of government. The treasure is also of government! The requirement is of government and the fulfillment agent is also of government! Both are in front of me. Who am I to do or to refuse? I am a neutral witness. What if face trouble due to disobeying of rules? Then what? Nothing! If this problem is getting solved by facing some trouble then let trouble happen! Everywhere I have equity. Then no worries ..’

Thoughts were over. Dilemma state of mind was finished. Decision was done . . Within half an hour the required money was handed to the colonel. Written letter about asking money and money received was taking from Colonel. Colonel noted down the unexampled situation of crisis and Raosaheb’s courageous decision in confidential remarks Notebook. An hour ago colonel came in with a sad face and came out with a delighted face and he spurred his horse and went to military base grandly.

After colonel left Saint Raosaheb wrote detailed report and sent it to Collector Mansfield. After sending the report he returned home.

After one and half months Mansfield sir’s letter arrived. He had not only given the approval of taking out thirty thousand rupees from treasure but also thanked Saint Raosaheb from within for understanding the seriousness of situation, acting on time, displaying act of bravery and saving the dignity of government. This act was very much appreciated by the government.

After three four days an incident happened! It was afternoon time. Saint Raosaheb served food for the arrived guests and needy villagers and he was going to sit for lunch . . . and in that time he saw someone coming towards his Wada. . It was a couple. .

Raosaheb looked straight. They both reached Wada. Saint Raosaheb came forward. They both saw with contented eyes. They kept their head on Raosaheb’sfeet , stood up again and started filling this appearance from eyes into the mind ‘Ahaha, what a sparkling figure!’

Raosaheb made both of them sit on footstool. Gave them cold water and little jiggery. Put salt in water and told them to wash their hands and legs with that water. Due to water the tiredness in legs reduced a lot. Immediately there was preparation going on for their meal. Before lunch both had a bath. But the Brahmin Lady did not have other clothes. She squeezed her clothes, wore them and sat on the footstool like that only. Saint Raosaheb saw that. He immediately went inside. Searched a lot but didn’t find even a single sovlecloth. For a moment he was stunned. But only for a moment? And then he went further inside the house. Sundarabai’sPitambarhavinggolden brocade was kept nicely. He took that and gave to the woman to wear. Gave them food and contented their heart. After food gave the woman another cloth to wear regularly. Made arrangements for their rest and then himself took food. Second day they both wanted to leave. Raosaheb called them closer and gave them Dakshina. What was the Dakshina? It was ten silver royal signet coins. The couple got lost. They could not utter a word from their mouth. With full satisfies heart they went to their village. “We have seen many times a Man treating another man like a man, but saw today a man treating another man like a God”, they started telling this to everyone they met.

When such a life was going on in Aerandol, Revenue officer of Amalner, Shree Govinddaji came to meet Saint Raosaheb. After welcoming him served with hospitality and kept him for residence. At night when hustle and bustle reduced they both sat talking. While talking in the flow Govinddaji said - ‘Roasaheb, I wanted to request you one thing.’

‘Why request, you can ever order instead’ said Saint Raosaheb.

‘It might be of bit pain to you, but let me tell you now only. Due to job I need to stay at Amalner. It’s a bit hectic because my most of the land and property in near Aerandol. So felt . . . if my transfer was to Aerandol instead of Amalner then would be really better. If you directly give the permission for transfer then . . ’

‘Only this right. If it’s your convenience we will surely do the shifting. I will write and give you approval letter. ’Govind slept with contented mind. Saint Roasaheb laid down silently chanting. At last he told his mind, - ‘Narayana, for benefitting others, give me the brain not only for accepting transfer but also for giving up the job itself.’

Approximately in two months Govinddaji’s proposal was accepted and saint Raosaheb had to take farewell of Aerandol villagers with a sad heart. Maharaj was back in Amalner !

Adhyay 4 - Enthusiasm and Prudence

One day morning DevMamledar was nervous. In office also he didn’t speak with anyone in special. After coming home, he quietly had a bath and arranged help of needy.

He started thinking with self, ‘In Amalner, this is my second time residence! When I was transferred to Aerandol, that time Amalner villagers had prayed votively to SakharamMaharaj’s Samadhi to get me back’ and really I came back here.

Swami Samartha is Anantkotibhramandnayak! His words have come true. People are experiencing service from me, there problems got resolved, blessings made true by Shri Vishnu through me. I haven’t left politeness, I am fair, helping poor and needy. People make some vows somewhere ... Let the child's illness be cured, let Krishna Dev play (baby be born) in our house, Let me get the land, let my relationship barriers be removed, let my daughter get married to agroom from good family...They get fulfilled.

I have not been taken backward step for philanthropy. Sundarabaialso offered her jewelry for this and showed true husband devotion. I did not leave the aptness in the job… did not leave Integrity and Honesty… and then why the tribulation about the job now? Why do some senior officials ill-willingcomplain? Why English people are not seeing the brighter side.

Can I not do philanthropy, show compassion and do charity in personal time?

Why they cant be of open mind. They have sent reports and made false allegations inspite of so many strict audits found work to be perfect.

How ridiculous is the allegation that 'Since YashwantMahadev has taken out exorbitant loan for religious work, illegal loans have been made in the taluka'.

I took out a personal loan for religious work. So where does the question of debt to the taluka come from? I have not taken any loan from these officials or from the government treasury, so why this upheaval?

And then with the chorus of those false reports, No irregular or neglected matter was found in the file. Moneylenders were also summoned for loan inquiries. After reading the answers sent by them, the investigating officer toned down. The moneylenders from Peth and Parola had written. 'We have given loans to the Maharaj for religious work. If he repays it, he will get great merit. If he cannot repay it, we will get that merit. With this thought and religious intellect, we have lended money.

Till a sensible officer like Mansfield was present, the idea of false reports did not work. But he had left to Karachi as the revenue commissioner of Sindhpat andthe of the volume of inquiries grew.

God, most of my time is spent on false accusations rather than office work. This restlessness continues at home too. Isn't this the obstacle in the path of ultimate reality? The supreme is my breathe, philanthropy is my inhalation, consolation to afflicted is my exhalation. This is only my life. This breathing should continue day and night. It is being hindered. Life is becoming distressed. Why do you want a job that hinders your path? Why the lure? Stay as the way god as kept you. Mind should be satisfied.

Seems some decision was made. Maharaj got up from his bed and came to the living room. He turned up the light and sat on the seat. The writing started on a piece of paper. After the text, he signed YashwantMahadev". He sprinkled fine sand on the paper and then dusted off the sand. He folded the paper and put in an envelope. He kept the envelope in the accouting book, then got up, dimmed the lamp and fell back again on the bed. He felt very light. The restlessness had disappeared. The snare of temptation had been broken. He had come out of falsehood.

One month passed by since YashwantMaharaj resigned from british government just to do phylinthropy.

One day while pryaing, for a moment green and purple light flashed in front of eyes. Swami Samartha Maharaj’s face appeared and said “ Why are you running away from Karma – Are you a esacper ? ” Things vanished. Maharaj became restless by Swami’s words. What he wanted to communicate. How am I running away from Karma. “How come I am escaping? I did not give up. On the contrary, kept on growing, broke fascination by resigning from job, and started spending more time in Parmarth. Don’t want false claims of the officers. He is everywhere. In that job is he is not there? He is present in stick and stone. How he s not present in no stone-hearted people? No, No, Not possible. He is here and not there. This isn't it possible. If I quit my job, wouldn’t I detach the Lord present in them? I was afraid of obstacles on the path of karma, I avoided difficult task. Is this my karma yoga? Isn't this evasion and escaping? Will leaving the job prove my Karma Yoga? Sita Goddess also did not avoid fire test. Lord Ram did not give up his duty, so why should I fear ordeal? Why should I fear the wicked? So why this evasion? I had spoken to Kopargaon wth river Goddess Godavari (Godamai). Let me also quench the thirst of the thirsty, give food to the hungry, provide shelter to the homeless. Giving me whatever I want, Gangamine gave me the power to immerse myself in the Supreme power and to be a guiding light on the path of duty. In the future, many people are going to follow this parth. What role model do I set for them? In the future, many seekers will work, what role model will I set for them? How can I be a guide? Rishi Munis guided the Sanyasis, agriculturists, householders, Vanprastha , Bramhacharis. Does the sun leave the light ever? Did the moon leave coolness ever? Did the river ever turn back? I will be the light of the sun. I will hold the coolness of the moon. I will be the pure water of Gangamai. I will give light to all. I will take away the heat of all by the coolness. The sun gives the same light to everyone. The moon does not discriminate in spreading coldness. Rivers, clouds and trees benefit everyone. I will be the tree that gives shade to the wounded by standing in the sun on its own. It is now decided …

No matter where you are, whoever you are, whatever the external changes may be due to time, circumstances. I will live my life to convince the whole world of the spiritual truth.

I will fight to get my job back. I have resigned. The arrow is already out of hand. How will it come back now? But I will deform that arrow. I must do it…”

Maharaj now felt refreshed. They came home. It was evening time for lighting lamps. He completed his daily deeds and saw what Mahadevpat and Haridevi needed. He talked to the brother for a while and came to the sitting room and sat down with the paper and writing material in front of him. He had written two letters. The first letter was written to Mr. Ellis Sir, the Revenue Commissioner of the Northern Province, requesting rejection of resignation, as would be withdrawing it. The second letter was written on a personal note to Mansfield Sir. Mr. Mansfield was now the Revenue Commissioner of Sindh Province in Karachi. He had a good idea of the Maharaj’s character and due to the good nature of the Maharaj there goodwill established between them.

Shortly after the request letter, Maharaj decided to meet Mr. Ellis. Later he left for Mumbai on October 17, 1863. In Mumbai he went to Shri.Govindappa HariWalvekar (Lingayat). Walvekar had great faith in Maharaj. He was very happy that Maharaj came to his house.

Ellis Sir was in GhoGho port. He had to travel by boat for six or seven days. After staying for three days in Walvekar’s house, on fourth day Maharaj left for GhoGho port. Mahadevpant, Hardevi and Maharaj’s brother stayed back at Walvekar’s house. Along with Kalu and 2 servants, Maharaj started his journey by boat. Maharaj got delighted in the company of vast sea. Blue sky up and the surrounded by the surrounding blue sea! What a huge form of the Supreme Spirit is given to these eyes.

On seventh day the boat reached GhoGho port. A gentleman by the name of Shambhu Prasad and Mamledar of GhoGho arranged the stay of the Maharaj. Both were impressed by the radiant face, compassionate eyes and politeness of Maharaj. They were happy with darshan of Maharaj’s delightful look.

The next day Maharaj went to visit Ellis Sir. Mr. Ellis is a simple and gentle man like Mansfield Sir. He respectfully inquired Maharaj. I began to humbly say ‘Bhosekar I think you resigned for nothing, you took an extreme step’.

Maharaj stated politely, ‘I will explain in to your honor. I was tormented by the fever of untruth, I was troubled by false inquiries, but I did not waver. It didn't collapse though. But sir, what can I say, the loan I took for charity stopped my job. The order was given by Mr. Ashburns to repay the loan within four months. Inspite of replying there were many enquiries happening regularly. So my mind was aroused and I hurriedly resigned in a fit of emotion, but after much thought, I realized that I had acted foolishly by resigning. I had broken the foundation of my whole being. I was sleepless at nights and I wrote you a request letter. I beg you to let me be employed as per my request letter.’

Maharaj's humble speech, humble nature and truthfulness impressed Mr. Ellis. Meanwhile, a letter from Mr. Mansfield came from Karachi. In it, he asserted that if we did not help this great man, we would have missed our sacred duty. He had made a heartfelt request to remove the injustice on Yashwant Mahadev. Mr Ellis decided to remove the injustice done on Maharaj. Because he was convinced that he had resigned out of resentment because of the persecution of this great man with hatred in mind.

Maharaj's resignation had not yet reached from the Collector to the Commissioner. Taking a copy of his resignation, Mr. Ellis wrote an urgent letter to the Collector of Khandesh. Mr. Ashburn received the letter and became furious, Because YashwantMahadev had formed direct alliance with the Commissioner and that is why the Commissioner had written - Can Yashwant Mahadev be appointed as a Mamledar officer in his previous position?

Collector Ashburn wrote an eloquent reply – ‘Since Yashwant Mahadev has voluntarily resigned from the post, there is no need to think about his appointment. Mamledar of Shahada has been promoted and appointed in his place to fill the vacant position due to his resignation. Hence there is nothing that can be done about his appointment.’ The envious gentleman had forgotten that he was writing a letter to his superiors. He realized that after reading the letter received from Mr. Ellis again! In this letter Mr. Ellis made him aware about his power and duties. At the last, it was written in the letter – ‘I think that a virtuous, immaculate, humble and honored man should not suffer and should not be harmed. You must know that many high-ranking government british officials have faith in him and respect him as virtuous man. With all this thoughts and keeping cruelty aside, I think that his re-appointment should be made.

Above this, if you do not appoint him then I will have to appoint him as the Mamledar officer of Shahada.’

After reading the letter, collector got upset. He was offended by the adjectives written by Mr Ellis for Yashwant Mahadev. But in either case, I would have to appoint him and this cannot be avoided. He banged his hands angrily on the table and said - 'Damn it, now I will show how a bureaucrat, can keep the ball unsteady'

Here Maharaj said goodbye to Mr. Ellis. When Maharaj left, he said ‘ Sir, you are a big man, Really kind hearted, you took so much trouble for me…’, Ellis stopped him and said, "Okay. Okay. Let's see…. God will bless me’ eventually he was blessed.

Maharaj came back Ahmedabad and returned to Mumbai immediately. Walvekar was waiting. At that night Maharaj said to Walvekar, ‘Appa, I would burden you. I think, I would need money soon. At that time please accept my request’. '' Maharaj, don't worry, even if you ask at midnight, this Govindappa would make the arrangements” said Walvekar pointing to hs heart.

After 2 days Maharaj left from Mumbai. Now meeting the collector and taking appointment letter was the remaining task. Since Collector was residing at Bhusaval, Maharaj stopped at Bhusawal and met the Collector. But the Collector wanted to keep the ball unstable. He said, "The Commissioner has ordered you to bring proof of debt relief so that you can get the appointment letter immediately." Maharaj said 'It is fine’, and along with Kaluram soldier with him took train back for Mumbai again as he had to repay the loan and Five thousand rupees were required. Walvekar had given the word. Maharaj narrated the situation to Walvekar. Walvekar said. 'No problem, sir. One of our patidars is in Bhadgaon. His name is Gangaram Baldev Shet. I will write a letter. You give it to Gangaram Shet so you will get the money. Now you rest. Ekadashi fast today! You look very tired. It is better to leave after you finish fast tomorrow on the occasion of Saadhan Dwadashi. On Ekadashi and Saadhan Dvadashi, I would feel greatful if saints like you live in our house.

The next fortnight was very busy. This was because the important task of going to the creditors or sending a man to pay them and get receipts for the debts sought to be completed. Finally, after paying all, the letters and receipts were collected. Now it should not be delayed. Maharaj came to the Collector with the receipts of debt payments. Collector examined all the receipts. But his mind was looking for an excuse to keep the ball unstable. A few moments passed. The bureaucrat inside him woke up and started talking. ‘Okay. We looked at the receipts. We will make a decision based on that and let you know. You can leave now.’

Maharaj was numb for a moment. Unaware of what was going on in Collector Sir's mind, he turned back. A week passed by and there were no actions done by Collector at all. There was no alternative other than to meet Mr. Ellis again. Maharaj waited for another week and headed to Igatpuri because the Commissioner was staying at Igatpuri. Mr. Ellis listened to the Maharaja's plea and said, "Don't worry, you will get the appointment." Now that you have come here, stay with us for a few days. Your companionship is really pleasant, even Manfield used to say this’.

How can I break the gentleman's loving urge to stay? Soon he came to Matheran with Mr. Ellis Saheb. After the summer, the rains started and Saheb's office moved to Pune. Saheb was not ready to release Maharaj and even Maharaj could not ignore the request of such a kind and gentle man. When he came to Pune from Matheran, Saheb wrote an urgent letter to the Khandesh Collectorate office. Meanwhile, Mr. Mansfield came to Pune for some work. Maharaj also visited him. Mr. Mansfield was very happy. Both the Collectors along with Maharaj would get engrossed in talks. Both of them respected the divine qualities of Maharaj. Four days later Khandesh Collector Ashburn Saheb came to Pune. When he came to the boss in the evening, there was a lively discussion between the three friends. Seeing the respect Maharaj was getting, the collector somehow felt that now he could not keep the ball unstable. After the formal speech, he said to the Maharaj. 'You have to come to Dhule in 15 days, so I will immediately order for your appointment.’

The next day, Maharaj bade farewell to everyone and left Pune. When he left Pune, he thought that he should go to his hometown and so he came to Bhose. The villagers were happy. Maharaj came to Dhule after visiting Pandharpur.

After a night's rest, Maharaj went to the Collector's office in the morning after completing his daily activities. Saheb had finally fixed the ball. He had appointed Yashwant Mahadev as the Mamledar of Shahada.

The news about Amalner's Dev Mamladar coming to Shahada excited all the people of Shahada village. They met Maharaja and took him to the village with ceremonial procession.

Maharaj took the darshan of Swami in Devghar and found Swami with witty smile and blessing Maharaj with Abhay Mudra.

Adhyay 5 - Devmamledar in the form of Shri Rameshwar Jyotirlinga

Keshav Pant took bullock cart and started from Shahada to meet Maharaj and while travelling he was in deep thoughts of his unusual experience.

In the flash back, a month ago, in March, 1864, he was transferred to Shahada as a school teacher. On first day evenng in Shahada, he went to Dev Mamledar for bhajan. There were many devotees, poors, needy waiting eagerly to seek blessings. Maharaj had even arranged for their food. When Keshav Pant got to know it was a routine, he was surprised to see Maharaj’s kindness. When Maharaj talked to him affectionately, Keshav Pant said, 'My name is Keshav Sadashiv Risbud. A teacher by profession, I started working as a headmaster here today. Otherwise I live in Sangamner. I was looking for attending this Bhajan’.

Maharaj said, ‘Devotees are always welcome. Do come regularly’.

About 15 days later, Keshav Pant was transferred from Shahada to Dhule. The original name of Shahada village was Suvarnapur. Later, under influence of Mugal rulers, it became Sultanpur. But the locals liked the name Shahada.

Pantoji was very sad when he told his transfer news to Maharaj. Maharaj said quietly, ‘Pantoji, Don't be upset like this these are the knots of your birth and rebirth, our association will not break. Shri Narayan will keep your affection’

Few days later, Keshavpant discharged responsibilities to new headmaster and started his journey to Dhule city. A few months later, he was transferred to Shirpur.

Now read carefully,

One day, he was about to return home after school. Keshav Pant saw someone was waiting to meet him. The man was coming slowly and there was a yoke (Kavad) on his shoulder. Slowly the man came in front of Pant and said, ‘Ram Ram’ with deep eyes.

Guessing the tired body and trembling voice, Pant said, 'Baba are you sick. Do you need medicine?’.

‘Yes,right’, The man shook his head.

Then Pant brought him to Chawdi (porch) without delay. He came home himself and took some herbs and pills provided by the government and came back to Chawdi.

Keshav Pantoji asked, "Baba, which yatra are you going on?".

Baba said, ‘ Who knows why but I want to tell it to you I am from Kolhapur! Eleven years have passed since I left the family world and decided to travel to Kashi and Rameshwar continuously. The journey continued with my Kavad (yoke) of bathing in the Ganga river and take that Ganga water and offer to Rameshwar and return to Kashi. Now people know me by the name ‘Kavadi baba’. Eleven years have passed and this year, in the twelfth year, I left Kashi with a yoke (kavad). The journey was going on as usual. I felt cold and fever while climbing Satpuda mountain. My body became weak. My walking speed slowed down. There was no strength left in my body. The weakness had increased. The eye began to catch fire. The throat became dry and the soul began to swell. Feeling that death was near, I prayed fervently, “O Lord Kashinatha, Rameshwara, you have been with me for eleven years. But now it's time for me to end. This twelfth batch (parikrama) will not be completed. God, my soul is burning. My strong wish is let this Ganga water fall on your head and just went into sleep. I don't remember but I had a dream. A glorious Brahmin stood next to him. He had Tripund on the forehead, Rudrakshamala around his neck, Khadava on his feet, Kamandalu in one hand and Abhay mudra with the other hand.

The divine person said, ‘Wake up, don't be afraid, your commitment tapshcharya of twelve years has been completed and now it is fruitful. You don't need to come to Rameshwar anymore. At some distance from here, there is a great saint known as Yashwant Maharaj is staying at city called Shahada. Understand that he is me. Bathe him with your Gangajal. It will be like bathing me and you will have the virtue of completing the purpose of bathing me (Lord Shiva) for 12 years. Don't worry and get up’.

I woke up. I was drenched in sweat. I wiped my limbs, got strength in my body and got excited and to Shirpur. I inquired and got to know Pantoji will have medicine hence came to you”.

Kavadibaba looked at Pantoji and his eyes were full of tears.

Kawadi Baba said, ‘Why are you crying? Perhaps I troubled you with my story’.

Pantoji he wiped away his tears and gave the medicine to Kawadi Baba. Then they brought Kawadi Baba to their house and took him for a meal. Pantoji said, ‘Kawadibaba, Shri Yashwantrao Maharaj is the god of all Khandesh, the food giver of thousands. I am a devoted devotee of him and from time to time I go to Shahadya to pay homage to him. Today I was very happy to hear your wonderful experience. I now understand why I should have the wisdom to visit you and share my experience with you’.

Next dat Kavadibaba left for Shahada. He visited Maharaj and told him all the facts. Maharaj said quietly. 'Baba, this is your faith. I am just an ordinary person.’

Kawadibaba bowed and said, "Maharaja, This is the order of Lord Rameshwar, accept the Ganga I have brought and purify me”. By hearing this devotees applauded with joy Yashwantrao Maharaj Ki Jai.

Mahashivaratra came, crowds of people started coming to Maharaja's place. On this auspicious day, Kawdi Baba celebrated a big festival. The Maharaja was brought to the river by a savory procession. A pavilion was erected in the river. Vedashastra Scholar Brahmin seated the Maharaja on a decorated square. Kawadbaba worshiped Kavad. He started sprinkling the holy water of Kawdi on the head of Yashwant Maharaj with Bilva-Patra (aegle marmelos/golder apple) and started saying Rudradhyaya along with others. At the same time, Kawadi Baba was experiencing some thing different was happening. As the cycles of Rudra mantra were progressing. Maharaj's face was disappearing and saw the radiant face of Sadhu with Rudrakshamala who was in his dream. From then on, Divya Shankh Dhwani started listening to him. Later he saw Divya Linga on the chowranga in front of him. Then the fourth and fifth rotations were completed one after the other, and he was beginning to realize the changing nature of the Maharaj. Finally, after completing the cycle of eleven, he slowly poured the pilgrimage gangajal from the Kavad yoke on Maharaj's head and saw Rameshwar Shivling’.

Kawadibaba was mesmerized and said,’ Today Shri Rameshwar appeared and life became meaningful. Now I will give up my life happily. God, all my desires were satisfied. ‘

Few days later Kawadibaba left further for his journey.

Adhyay 6 - Saving devotees from crisis

After four years of continuous stay at Shahada in 1867, Maharaj was transferred to Sindkheda.

Maharaj’s donation continued to poor and needy, in one case Sundaradevi gave her ‘Paithani’ saree to a poor lady. The poor lady couldn’t believe that someone offered her such a expensive gift.

One day all devotees were sitting, Keshav Pant was also part of the active discussion. Inbetween postman brought a mail. A thick envelope came.

“ Shri Yashwantrao Maharaj Devmamledar, thousands of Namskar to you from your devotee Govindappa Hariappa Lingayat Walvekar from Mumbai.

As you know, we have a cotton trade in Khandesh. Our Patidars manage it. Despite all the well-being, the situation was very unfavorable last year. In such a situation, even though the season ended, the principal capital was not recovered. The loss was like never before. Felt all business is over. I began to worry about what would happen in the future. Then I remembered you.

I thought to myself, 'Will not Yashwant Deva, the benefactor of thousands of poor people, listen to my call? At the time of such Nirvan situation, we should also make a vow to him. I immediately prayed, O God of success, take me out of trouble and let my business run smoothly. I have completely surrendered to you. Save me, If I come back to my trade in normal way, I will offer you five thousand rupees’. The next day I took your name ‘Jai jai Yashwantdev’ and started accumulating cotton. The warehouses were filled up and we waited for a few days. Then suddenly there was a huge demand for cotton from England and America and the price of cotton skyrocketed. I sold all the cotton in the warehouse and let me tell you, I got four times than the original purchase price. Last year's loss was fully offset, on top of it the net profit remained at Rs 20,000. We would not have imagined this even in a dream.

I am writing this letter with a deep heart, you have made me more stable than before with the grace of a golden opportunity that I did not have. Needless to say, I gave you five thousand. Of that, one thousand is deposited and four thousand is left. The remaining four thousand has been sent along with the receipt.

What more to write? It was your grace that made us stand up again. Otherwise we were washed away. Let the same grace be with us forever.

Yours faithful devotee,

Govindappa Hariappa Walvekar.”

Keshavpant finished reading the letter. Everyone's eyes were filled with tears and all were over joyed.

When Maharaj got to know about it, he only mentioned Narayana saved, ‘Om Namo Naraynay’

After the residency at Sindkheda for two and a half years, Maharaj was transferred to Satana in early 1869. The people of Sindkhed were sad to hear the news of Maharaj's transfer. Everyone was telling each other pleasant stories from the past. See off ceremony was held in Sindkheda. There were thousands of people in that emotional ceremony. After the ceremony, some beggars ran to the maharaja asking for help before he leaves for Satana the next day morning. Maharaj had a big problem. Because the next day he was going to go to Satana and the beggar came home and demanded help which would need at least Rs.500. The next day dawned, he was ready to leave. Maharaj told them, “You come with me, I will try to arrange help and then you can leave. Everyone started their journey by bullock carts. After saying goodbye to the villagers, Maharaj instructed to divert the bullock carts to the left side of Patan village.

Satra Chaudhari was a Patil of Patan. He was confused as a farewell ceremony for Maharaj at the taluka had happened yesterday and he was wondering how Maharaj is in Patna today. He welcomed, Maharaj said to Patil, 'Patilbuwa, we have left for Satana. We have to go through Dhule on our way. We have run out of money for some urgent work’. Satra Patil replied, 'Maharaj, even God will not say no to your work. So how could I say no? Maharaj mentioned, ' 500 rupees is needed. When we reach Dhule, we shall arrange to send your money, but if we could not send money from Dhule then we would have to wait for a while, we shall send you once reach at Satana’. Satra mentioned 'Maharaj. I am doing your work but consider my problem too. If you send money from Satana so it will be too late. Send money from Dhule. This may sounds pretty straight. But in financials matters it has to be that way. Take this money’. Maharaj said, 'God is great, thanks’. Now I can share with those needy. When Maharaj left, Satra Patil gave him a horse and bullock cart and also sent his nephew Dhondu with him. As soon as the vehicles came out of the village, the Maharaja gave the money to the beggars and left for Dhule. As maharaj was going to visit Dhule, Dhulekar’s were over joyed; one of them was wealthy Sardar Shamrao Bapurao Jahagirdar Garud. There was a grand welcome in Dhule by all Dhulekar’s. There were sequential programs in Dhule that kept maharaj fully occupied and he went to Satana.

Adhyay 7 - Shri Hari in the form of Anantsing Pardeshi

Deputy Rao Bahadur and Sindkheda's rewarder had come to meet Satra Patil. They asked “Patil, we have heard that Shri Yashwantrao Bhosekar had borrowed five hundred rupees from you. He had promised you to send the money from Dhule, but he did not send it. But in between someone unknown paid that amount. People are saying Lord Narayan paid. Is that true?’.

Satra Patil answered,’Yes, that’s the fact. I will tell you the whole truth. I had given Rs 500 to Yashwant deva and also had sent some horse carts along with my nephew Dhondu.

Coupld of days / Then next day in the morning there was a knock on our door. Someone was telling me to open the door, hurry up. I opened the door myself. There was a middle-aged smart person with black eyes, a soldier's uniform and a bag in his hand. He said, "I came from Dhuliyan. People call me Anantsingh Pardeshi. I am Jaswant Maharaj's soldier; he has sent me to you by giving me five hundred rupees from Dhuliyan”. He gave me that money and said “Patel, Count it well. I am a little clear in speaking and I want to talk straight with you but it is fine to be clear in financial matters”.

I felt highly surprised because I had mentioned same words when I had spoken to Maharaj. 'What did you say to Maharaj?” visitors asked Satra Patil. I said same words to Maharaj when he told he will arrange money from Dhule and not from Satana. Now that entire incident sounds makes me feel low because of my responses. As I started counting the money, Anant Singh said,” Patel, keep receipt ready. Until then, I will meet Bhagvandas Chaudhary and he left immediately.” I counted the money, exact Rs 500. I made a receipt and started waiting for Anant Singh. But even after checking multiple times we could not find him. After waiting for some more time, I sent my son to Chaudhary’s place. But Anant Singh had not gone there. Then he said. 'I saw the soldier (Anant Sing) walking towards your house in the morning, but he was not seen later. Even though it was evening, he did not come to collect the receipt. Inquiries in the village did not help. That day had gone and another but he did not come even after telling me to keep the receipt ready. So I thought, we would get to know more once Dhondu comes back.

When Dhondu returned three days later, I asked him about it, but he did not know it. Dhondu only mentioned that Maharaj moved to Satana and didn’t get chance to arrange money.

Now I understood. In order to keep the word of Maharaj, Shrinivas Narayan became Anant Singh and brought me money. What can I say? Now I want to meet Maharaj and I want to beg him for forgiveness. Lord came to my door as the Infinite Shri Hari, my ignorance Ignored him. Now I am desperate to see AnantSing. Will anyone show me my Anant Singh now ?”

They all touched that Rs 500 bag and worshipped, afterall it was touched by Srihari Vishnu.

Later on the fourth day, Satra Patil came to Satana. He met Maharaj and gave transaction paid receipt. Maharaj humbly mentioned ‘I have not paid yet then why are you giving me receipt’. After hearing this Patil broke off and told him the entire story. Satra Patil said, “I don't want that money, I don't want that world, what I want is to see Anantsing. My soul is burning to see God Anant Singh. Maharaj, have mercy on me. I offer life but show him a friend. Maharaj understood Patil's longing. Maharaj prayed in mind, “Narayana, I bow you to show Anant Sing to repentant Patil. Satra touched Maharaj's feet then closed his eyes and he felt lightning shining all over his body and in front of him his beloved Anant Singh appeared in the dim light mixed with red, yellow and green colors.Exactly the same silver blonde color, black eyes. The only difference was the middle age and the dress of the soldier. He was now with nothing in his hands. Patil lost consciousness. He rolled at Anant Singh's feet. Holding tight legs, he said, ‘Jagannatha, free me from the vicious cycle of birth and death’. Anant Singh raised them and said. Son, I know your longing. By the grace of my beloved Yashwant, you will cross this world ocean and Anant Singh merged in the light’. The maharaja did namskar to Shri Hari mentally. Dressed in yellow, on the chest, a beautiful idol of Kaustubh Sripadam and Vaijayantimala was seen all around. Maharaj bowed his head again and prayed. Lord Narayana, my woe is that you had to become a soldier for this Yashwant. Don’t do this again. Narayan smiled and got vanished.

Patil slowly came to his senses. After staying in Satna for two days, Patil returned home. Satra Patil was experiencing the unprecedented peace and contentment had entered their lives.

Adhyay 8 - The Historical event – Emptying Treasury in the draught

Village Satana, situated on the bank of Aaram river a silent, peaceful & beautiful village, typically wake up early in the morning and calmed after the sunset, then.

One fine morning, Sadhvi Mathurabai came to meet Maharaj along with 9-10 years of son Madhav.

Madhav was blessed with grand personality appeared impatient today. Maharaj met both of them.

Maharaj cuddled Madhav just like mother holds her baby, and asked Mathurabai, 'Is he Prasad of Ujjain?’ Mathurabai was pleasantly surprised to hear Maharaj's question. She understood the power of Maharaj’s trikaldyan.

The reason of her surprise was here. On one Shravan Somvar at Ujjain, Mathurabai was worshipping Shri Mahavdev. There, a glorious monk (sadhu) came. Mathurabai took his darshan and that monk offered her a prasad and blessed her saying, 'You will have a supernatural and popular son’. Then Madhav was born. After 7-8 days of stay, before leaving for Ujjain, Mathurabai along with Madhav came for Maharaj’s darshan. Maharaj told Mathurabai,” Take care of Madhav, he is the owner of the throne! You will get to know in three months, take him to Chitrakut ". Mathurabai did not understood much of Maharaj's utterances. Maharaj spoke “anath NATH sanath’. She felt it was code worded.

At the end of 1869, Maharaj was requested to come to the district office. Because at that time Ahmednagar district was getting divided and Nashik became an independent district. While dividing the work of Ahmednagar and Nashik districts, an expert committee of eleven experts was appointed and the Maharaja was appointed on this committee. Mr Ohans was appointed as the Collector of New Nashik District and he was the Chairman of this Committee. The Maharaja prepared a plan and presented it to the committee, which was approved by all the members, including the Collector, and sealed.

Post this Maharaj came to Satana. Yet another mysterious incident happened. Govind shatri Upasani came to meet Maharaj along with his son. Govindshastri was son of famous ved scholar Gopalshastri.

Govindshastri told the purpose of visiting Maharaj. He said,’My Son is Kashinath. He will be eight years old and we want you to be at thread ceremony (munji) to bless him’. Govindshastri was requesting from the deepest of his heart. Maharaj said,’don’t worry. I will certainly come. Kashinath his a blessed child.’

Maharaj attended thread ceremony. When Kashinath came to seek maharaj blessings, maharaj kept his right hand on the forehead and said,’Long live Kashinath. Few years later, you will be recognized by the name Upsani . You will be supporter for many. Once you complete your work, you will come to meet me on the banks of Iravati. Om Namo Naraynay’

And the year 1870-71(?) came, with severe water shortage. Situation became difficult day by day. Severe draught started. Some families had left the village to avoid starvation.

Now bring all your attention and read whole heartedly.

And that day came, a crowd of poor beggars started flocking to Maharaj home, hundrends were sitting at door. Maharaj went inside took grain, food and gave it to them. This batch went and another came, Maharaj was giving away everything whatever he was finding. This time it was clothes with grain.

Now there was nothing left in the home. He remembered ornaments of Sundaradevi, Maharaj saught her permission and gave away those too. Nothing was left at home, absultely anything.

Maharaj was helpless, in complete disturbed mind he sat in front of Shri Hari Vishnu and uttered, ‘Narayana, now what should I do. There are so many people whom I could not give. Shri Hari what do i do now, I have nothing now. What can I give now? I have no idea what to do. God, there is nothing left to mortgage now. I will mortgage my life too but these needy people should get support for survival. Chain reaction of thoughts was triggered in mind, it was not controllable. Much contemplation was going on. He was thinking they need money for survival. I have money in office treasury. Should I. No, No. It’s a sin said one mind. Other said, its not. This money is of people kept with government, so people are owner of that money. Mind was under tremendous stress, one side faces of needy were flashing on mind other side duty. What will happen at the most, government will hang me, let it be but city should survive. Few years ago, when Colonel had approached to get money as his ration was over I had helped him and reported to government. Collector Mansfield was happy on the prompt action I did then. Would government behave differently in different cases. Justice should be same for all. Why should I be afraid of now while doing the same for these needy people?’ Maharaj did namskar with intensity to Shri Narayan and got up.It seemed he had taken some decision. He came out and asked huge needy crowed to come along with him to office. He called treasurer and took keys from him. The treasurer thought that Raosaheb should be checking the treasure as a routine audit. Maharaj came into the room and immediately opened the treasure. He took the money out of it, put it in the dhoti and came out. Hundrends needy were around; some of them who even couldn’t stand or speak due to starvation. Maharaj started giving a handful of money to everyone. Maharaj was not looking at anyone. Office people felt like a lightning wave struck them, so much of shock. They were speechless. Staff did not believe on whatever was happening. Maharaj kept continuing the same till everyone gone. He closed the treasure. He prepared report, sealed it and asked to report to government taking ownership of the act.

This news speard in the village like a wild fire. People became afraid, started crying upon thinking what would be result of this action by government. People remembered story of Damajipant.

Maharaj came home sat infront of Shri Hari and fell asleep while chanting.

The next day dawned and by noon the deputy officer Balkrishn appointed by government came to Satana. People shocked to see him as they knew his past and said, 'This deputy is very stubborn, he will not stay without arresting the Maharaj.

Here at head office, it was a burning environment after receiving the report that Maharaj had sent last evening. The Collector was abusing everyone. He said, ‘The disappearance of the treasure of one lakh and twenty seven thousand ? Collector was red-faced and said, 'Arrest Him and through him in the Hell', so Prantsaheb had to run away early in the morning. He had to interrogate him as soon as possible and send a report. He wanted to arrest Maharaj and take away. The day was passing fast, he wanted to complete interrogation of office staff before he does the audit of treasure.

He ordered Maharaj to meet him.

Maharaj came to meet him and narrated the whole draught situation, duty and the incident. He also requested that he himself will try give amount whatever he can in near future. Interrogation of office staff were stll pending and the time was passing by. Deputy officer was yelling at Maharaj left and right. He was completing the formalities for the treasury inspection. He completed interrogation of staff, everyone had same incident to tell.

Prantsaheb decided, he will inspect treasure early in the morning before calling Maharaj. Let's call the office workers early in the morning and check the treasure in front of them. The investigation will not last long as the treasury is empty. We will send a report immediately and call a police party so that it will be easy for caught accused (Maharaj) from the crowd without their resistance. Saheb got ready early in the morning and came to office. All the office workers, cash clerks, forensic staff and others showed up to inspect the treasury.

And the inspection began. Treasurer opened the treasury and he shouted deep and loud.

The treasury was full of money.

Prantsaheb got up from his chair. Workers couldn’t believe their eyes. The headmaster pinched his thigh and made sure that we were awake, not asleep, and that we were really looking at the treasure, which was full of money. The treasurer was rubbing his eyes again and again. They started feeling they are hypnotized. Treasurer said, ‘Sir, I do not understand anything. I closed this empty treasure with my hand and I have the key since then. What miracle happened? The treasure is full’

Saheb said, ‘I am also surprised that I have never seen such a thing in my life not heard’ his voice had come down. He was also speechless.

Treasured said,’ There was no money left in the treasury after Raosaheb finished distributing and now this treasury is full. This is a big miracle. Sir, whatever you say, but this pious soul seems to have God's help’.

Prantsaheb replied, ’It’s a fact and you can see this in front of your eyes’

The news of the miracle of the treasure got spreaded from Pattewala, there was joy in the whole village. The whole area was abuzz with slogans like 'Yashwant Maharaj ki jai’, ‘Dev tari tyala kon mari’.

On the other side, Maharaj was in puja. He laid flowers on Shaligram given by Swami Samarth (kept at Shri Yashwant MAharaj Patangan, Nasik Gangaghat). He bowed his head to Shri Narayan and he experienced a big energy ball appeared in that Chaturbhuj Narayan is touching the treasury with the lotus in his hand and it is seen that the treasury is filled with money. With a witty smile, Chakrapani Narayan said, ‘Well, Yashwanta, I have done my duty the way you did for needy’ and the chakradhari disappeared. Maharaj came out to go to office. He a saw a huge celebration was going on. The devotees told him the news of the treasure. Maharaj did namskar looking at the skies and said, 'Narayana Sarveshwara, what is your alchemy!’ In a short time, Maharaj came to the office. The whole village joined.

Here at the office, the amount was calculated. Even after counted it twice, the amount was exactly one lakh and twenty seven thousand. Not less or more.

When Saheb saw the maharaja, he thought that he was not really a human being but someone who was a saint of God. Prantsaheb said, 'Hey, sit down. But tell me how it all happened. People say, you distributed money in front of us. You also say that I distributed money. But here the treasury is full with correct amount. What is the miracle,How this is possible?’

Maharaj said, “Sir, I distributed the treasure by my own hands. I don't understand how it is full. But it is clear that Narayana filled the treasury. Whatever you decide to take action on me, I will accept.”

Prantsaheb said, ’what action can I take. There is no discrepancy and I can not take any action. I have no action to be taken. I will have to prepare report and send it.’

Maharaj requested his leave, while granting the Prantsaheb unknowingly bowed him. During his couple of days he audited Maharaj’s other work and found no discrepancies. He was convienced about Maharaj’s meticulousness and divine powers he has.

After couple of days when Prantsaheb was leaving, his horse was not under control. Many experts tried but it was in vain, the horse didn’t calm down.

In between, an old man came forward from the crowd leaning on a stick and said, "Sir, I am sorry, but your horse is stumbling in discomfort. The horse will be fine and you can go safely only if you seek forgiveness from Maharaj for your abusing’. Gradually Prant saheb made his mind and he sent a servant to the maharaj. The servant came to the maharaja and he explained the entire situation. The maharaj came to the horse and said, "It's over. Let's get up soon." "The horse calmed down. Saheb exclaimed," Well done, this surprise I will never forget for the rest of my life. I'm sorry, I made a mistake in recognizing you. You are a demigod.’ He thanked him and went away.

The flag of Maharaj's divine fame began to fly high and thousands of devotees were getting blessed by his lila’s.

Many British government officials started meeting him. Even today many senior government officials visit Samadhi mandir to get their wish fulfilled. Government officers have great dharna (belief) that maharaj being former government officer they fulfil their wish !

Jay Jay Yashwantdev ! …….

Now lets move to his further journey.

Shinde Sarkar requested to meet Maharaj. He got Maharaj’s presence for about 3-4 days and the entire Shinde family made best of the blessings and his stay.

Even Shrimant Nana Shankarsheth also visited maharaj to seek blessings and invited him to Mumbai.

During his Mumbai visit, many Wealthy Sheth moneylenders, traders, sardars, landlords from Konkan and Gujarat areas started came for darshan. Mumbai government had to made special arrangements. Judge of small cause court Pune, Madan Shrikrushnaji and Oriental Translator to Government Shri Vinayak Vasudev came to meet Maharaj in Mumbai. They felt such divine saint should visit Punyanagari (Pune) and invited Maharaj to Pune. Most of the government officials in the Pune division had come for darshan. Chartered servants, military officers and other employees used to pay daily darshan. Most of the senior British officers along with family paid darshan to Maharaj . Not only that, but the Governor himself came forward and paid his respects to him. Maharah were invited at Governer’s house at Ganeshkhind. While leaving Maharaj blessed, ‘With Narayana's blessings this area will become prosperous and will become a place of inspiration and shelter for thousands of souls’.

Later on this area become famous as ‘University of Pune’

Sahasrabuddha and Panse, two over thinker householders, saw the Maharaj's reception, cheers and crowds for darshan, and thought that it was a ploy. They were in doubt. They made a terrible plan and invited maharaj at Natu Wada, Shukravar Peth. They humbly mentioned, 'Maharaj, we want to do abhishek on you’. The two of them made seated Maharaj on the square and started abhishek. But devotees saw, two demon’s poured boiling water on Maharaj's body.

When the devotees grabbed both of them, they lost their temper. After expelling both of them, people came in and saw that all the limbs of the Maharaja were burnt. But he was sitting quietly. He was just a witness of the deed. The devotees immediately moved and brought a doctor there. The doctors started applying ointment to the maharaja and there was a commotion outside. Two people from the crowd came in front of Maharaj and started rolling on the ground. They did not have the courage to look at anyone. Maharaj, save us. We made a mistake, we are eternal criminals, Maharaj, stop this burning sensation in our body. We are burning, give us life! Sahasrabuddha and Panse were panting with the breath of life. People said, "Now enjoy the fruits of your evil deeds’. Both of them were pleading to calm burning sensation in their body. Maharaj asked them to apply tirth on the body so that the inflammation will calm down. About an hour, both of them were relieved. Both of them understood the divinity of spiritual soul and accepted his supremacy by heart.

Maharaj touched the lives of many great sadhu’s. Chandori is a village near to Nasik. A person was known for his mad behavior and people used to tease him calling as ‘Veda Narayan (Mad Narayan)’. However the reality was different. In order to remain disconnected from material world and to do single mind sadhna (meditation) Narayan was behaving like a mad. Maharaj told villagers the reality and asked them not to tease.

The Maharajah had a transcendental conversation with Vamanbuwa, a Brahmanist who was a devotee of Swami Samarth. Nanavali Maharaj, a Nathpanthi Siddhapurus of Chandwad, used to meet from time to time to Maharaj.

Gondwale is in Satara district. While wandering in search of Guru, Ganu he had taken Maharaj's darshan and blessings. He is also known as Brahmachaitanya Gondwalekar Maharaj.

A woman named Kakubai came to Maharaj from Mumbai realizing that her son had been possessed by a ghost. Maharaj said, "He has no influence of any evil. Sadguru Swami Samarth will have full grace on him.’ This boy later became a dear disciple of Swami Samarth (Haribhau alias Swamisut).

One of other personality was Umacharan Maharaj from Kashi. He fully experienced Maharaj's devotion and grace as well.

Adhyay 9 - Retirement

People had found living god in him. Supernatural experiences to many made their fortune shine. There were many senior British officers who started reaching out to Maharaj directly. Such incidents started created insecurity to Commissioner Ashburn. He wanted Maharaj to go away and created a report that mentioned Maharaj to be forcibly retired.

Maharaj politely mentioned that this is the forced retirement shown with allegation and he doesn’t find purity in taking pention. It is right for me to resign and accept retirement pay, if you allow I will complete proper handover and retire peacefully and then I can accept pention.

Haribhau Bhosekar was subregistrar at Sangamner, he invited Maharaj at Sangamner. Maharaj visited Sangamner during 1755. It was Mohram and villagers had participated in the procession. When people got to know, Maharaj is entering Sangmner, they left the procession and went to receive Maharaj.

This was not taken well by few people and decided to trouble Maharaj. They got a plate of meat covered with cloth and offered to Maharaj in the receiving procession. Maharaj looked at a plate and prayed to Narayan then he put his hand inside white cloth and took out fruits. Those people who were waiting for Maharaj to get toubled were mesmerized and apologied for their deed.

During Sangmner stay, many visitors were visiting Maharaj. Shri Hari Kanhere a Munsafa was very sck due to stumock problem since sometime. Doctors were visited and many medicines tried. When Shri Hari Kanhere’s wife got to know about Maharaj she decided to visit him. She narrated Maharaj all treatment and pleaded for husband’s life. Maharaj closed his eyes and saw her husband’s health was going to get detoriated if he doesn’t get any medication. Maharaj gave his wife Tirth and Vibhuti asked her to give it to her husband. She went home and with greatest faith she gave that tirth to Haribhau and applied Vibhuti on his stumock. Haribhau went a sleep after a while. The next day morning Haribhau was feeling very relieved from stumock ache. He was extremely happy to see he was back to normal life, he had no words to express joy. The person who was in complete pain had come back to normal life. Haribhau visited Maharaj and sought blessings.

Raosaheb Ganema Appaji Joshi and Fadnis, former case officers of Sangamner, Shri Krishnaji Sadashiv Mule came to see Maharaj and Faujdar Shri…... Tukaram Rajaram Pana went very difficult. Some of the moneylenders in the village are rich Rajaram Jinsiwale, who is the epitome of Maharaj's rituals, daily arrangements and charity. Ganesha Appaji, Krishnaji Sadashiv and Tukaram Rajaram decided to take turns with great devotion and carried the burden with joy for four months without giving anyone a drink. Maharaj spent most of his time in Sangamnerachit.

In the vicinity of Vaijapur one strange incident had happened. Ganga, an ordinary wrestler (pailvan) had defeated a giant wrestler. Before their match, all the villagers thought the giant wrestler will crumble Ganga wrestler. Ganga was from Gosavi family.

But strange thing happened and Ganga wrestler defeated giant one in the fight. All were over joyed. Ganga came for Maharaj’s darshan and mentioned “I am very happy today. I defeated opponent. Everyone is applauding my name” Maharaj said, “Very Nice. In wrestling, there are chances of defeat, when the mind becomes paranoid. In Harinama, there is an awakening of consciousness. Find the real purpose of life. Om Namo Narayanay”. The Ganga wrestler, however, was standing still and were thinking through Maharaj’s message. He felt, he was someone different than a toned body. He was having an unprecedented experience. Ganga touched Maharaj's feet. Maharaj put his hand on his head and said, “Now start working”.

Maharaj ordered saffron clothes and asked Gangagiri to wear it. Gangagiri realized that he was a Gosavi as a authority and he had forgotten about it for some time, but the Sadguru brought him back to the same path.

Taibai Shintre from Medhe, Colaba visited Maharaj. Her husband had a sudden fever and couldn’t be saved. Post husband’s demise Taibai Shintre had attained complete detTachment. She built Ram, Laxman and Sita Mandir. It was her strong wish that Maharaj should do pranpratisthpana of Shri Ram.. She visited MAharaj and before Taibai tells her purpose of her visit, Trikardyani Maharaj said, “Taisaheb. Lord Rama heard your prayer. We will come to your village. Before you pray, your prayers will be answered”. Taibai and visitors were astonished with this experience.

At Medhe, Maharaj did pranpratishpana of Shri Ganesh, Shri Ram, Laxman, Sitamai and Hanuman. All the environment were filled with joy and enthusiasm.

After two or three days, Maharaj said goodbye to Medhe and Rohe and came to Mumbai. During the stay, a bright young man was seen in the crowd of visitors every day, Govind, of around 27-28 years old. He was a Police but that job didn't suit him. He quit his job in the police department. His nature couldn’t see the sorrows of common people. He took diksha from Maharaj and pursued Datta seva.

One more devotee was privileged, Sitaram Zilu Mayekar, a young philanthropist from Sukalwad on Malvan Road in Sawantwadi Sansthan, came to Mumbai on a business trip. When he touched Maharaj feet Sitaram was in Brahmatanmaya position for almost two minutes as soon as he placed Maharaj's feet on his head. Visitors were stunned by this supernatural way.

Maharan smiled and said, 'The color scheme is very good. The most beautiful picture is created. But let's go beyond that and create the color of light.Let Narayan enlighten your whole life with spirituality. All the saints are alike be it from anywhere.”

Sitaram was mesmerized with this clear message as he was a painter and had faith in Dataganji Baksh, a musilim saint. How trikaldyani maharaj recognized his association as artist and Also his relationship with Dataganji Baksh, a muslim sadhu. There is nothing wrong to be associated with him. After two months, Maharaj came to yeola and to Satanaduring October 1874. Rumkmindevi Sundaramata was taking care of Maharaj like a shadow.

Adhyay 10 - Stay at Tryambakeshwar (Trimbakeshwar)

In 1875, Vishnudas Maharaj did Vishnu Yaga in the city of Mayurpur (Mulher). He arranged a lot of resources for Vishnu Yag. Janata Janardhana spontaneously added to it. Mayurpuri is a city sanctified by the presence of Siddha Mahatmas like Uddhavaswamy. This city, which preserves the treasures of history, was destroyed by the invasion of the Mughal’s. Temples and idols were vandalized. No one knew that the idols of the gods were kept, after Mughal invasion Mayurpur was changed to Mulher. Hope there will be no such direct or indirect invasions tolerated in the future.

Vishnudas Maharaj saw in his dream, idols are kept in the Talao (Tank) and to take out the idols from ponds. The idols were taken out accordingly. Vishnudas Maharaj, who performed such a great deed, was considered by many to be a spiritual soul. Great scholars, Kirtankar, Hardas, Puraniks, Shastri, Government Officials, had come to Mulher as if it was a Kumbh Mela or Simhastha Parvani.

Maharaj humbly accepted the chief position of the Vishnu Yag and wore the Yagyna bracelet. There was a huge crowd of devotees for the Yagnya. The work of the managing the devotees was being done with the help of the compassionate grace of Kalpataru Maharaj. The crowd of visitors was not moving. Everyone wanted to touch the feet of the Maharaja. All passed with joy and contentment and the hearts of all slowly began to return to the congregation. Maharaj also returned to Yeole. Shahane Raosaheb was recently transferred to Yeola. Later in Vaishakh, i.e. In the month of May 1877, Nrusinha Jayanti was celebrated by the wealthy Raghunathrao Vitthal Upadhyay Sardar Annasaheb Vinchurkar at Vinchur.

Later part of the year, sever draught again hit city Satana. People began to starve in some places and even starved to death. Cattle began to die in agony. Many families were displaced. They had to break through the household items, but for how many days they would have to beg. They had to beg for food from the leaves and put out the fire in their stomachs. Maharaj received letter regarding the situation, after reading the letter, Maharaj's heart was disturbed. Without a moment's delay, Maharaj travelled to Satana. He made arrangements so that all the digesters would get food. The day and night continued uninterruptedly. Even if any seeker came in the middle of the night, Sundaradevi used to arrange the meal. Jewelry sold, valuables sold, loans taken out. What to do now? When all the money from Maharaj was gone, a big dilemma arose. Moments later, Maharaj looked at Lord Narayana and found Jagannarayan was smiling. Maharaj was reminded of the old smile. The same narayan, the same smile, was experienced even before he took birth on this earth. The lord of Vaikunthpate had said, "Oh, I will tell you a trick. I will not make you rich. You used to borrow money from people and spend it on all religious activities. With this, two things will be achieved. One is that the money that goes to sinful or not needy deeds will come to you and you will use it for the poor. The giver of wealth will benefit and the poor’s need wll get fulfilled. It will not be your fault at all. You need to play the role of a milk vessel. Just like a Milkman stores the milk in a vessel but the milk doesn not belong to the vessel. The milkman gets the money, needy gets the milk whereas vessle remains neutral despite the presence of milk in it.”

After getting message reminded by Shri Hari, Maharaj wrote letters as Namo Narayanai to many. Huge resources started flowing towards Maharaj. From all the resources he helped poor and needy.

Later Maharaj travelled to Manmad. Tukoji Raje Holkar thought that this was a famous opportunity to bring Maharaj to Indore. He had some scary reason. The material offered by Raje Saheb was earlier avoided by Maharaj. In the year 1876, Shri Gawde came to Maharaj and used his intellect to convince to come to Indore. But Maharaj avoided going to Indore every time. People started thinking, Why Maharaj doesn’t take the royal belongings? Why are they still avoiding going to Rajsabha etc. Shri Tukoji Raje was eagerly waiting for a message. But such a message was not coming from Sakharam Bapu. Later, Tukojiraje had made an arrangement that there should be no reason to say No. Tukojiraje found Maharaj in a way and took him to Indore. Tukoji Raja arranged to bring Maharaj's worship items and his family and 20-25 dependents to Indore. Raje’s real wish was to get rid of all the haunting in his family from a ghost. The Maharaja's daily expenses and the expenses of 50 dependents with him began to be borne by the palace. There was no peace of mind in the royal family. To get this peace of mind, he needed the blessings and grace of the Maharaj. Vastudosha was not going away even after many donations or dong puja. In the end, the Rajpurohits said that such a terrible Vastudosha could go away only due to the presence of Powerful Mahatma.

When Sakharam Bapu requested Maharaj to visit palace at Indore, awful history of the palace of Indore became visible to the divine vision of the Trkaldarshi Maharaja. Punyashlok Ahilya Devi Holkar, who was very great after her demise, the descendant could not hold her higher value system. In one unfornuate unethical incident, the weaver was killed. The weaver was expert in black magic and had decided to take revenge and appeared as ghost.

Every night the vampires started harassing people in the mahal. Medicines, sorcery, yadnya performed, but the vampire barrier did not disappear. Raj purohit had told Tukoji Raje that if any powerful saint stays in the palace the vastudosh will go away.

That is why the kings were in search of saints and trying to bring them to the palace. He tried his best to bring Maharaj to Indore. He did not tell Maharaj what his intention was. The kings had arranged the residence of the Maharaja on the same floor. With the arrival of the Maharaja, his holy vision freed the terrifying vampire got mukti (evil spirit was freed) and the place became pure. Maharaj’s transcendental routine was going on. One evening Maharaj said, 'We need to Welcome someone tonight’.

He was not going to bed because Madhavnath Maharaj was coming to see him. He came at midnight. A bright idol stood in the front. Madhavnath took darshan of Maharaj and said. As a child, he was sanctified by Maharaj’s blessings. After accepting Rajesaheb's hospitality and Maharaj's rare satsang for ten or twelve days, Madhavnath left to Indore.

On January 4, 1884, Maharaj proceeded to khandva. At Khandwa, the wealthy Nizam Sarkar met Narendra Bahadur and Vitthalrao Jamadar. As admitted, Maharaj came with them to Manmad. He preferred to stay in the Vitthal temple of Manmad . The procession of people to see the Maharaja at Manmad started again. One day, Judge Madan Shrikrushna of the Small Cause Court in Pune came for darshan.

He bowed to the Maharaja and said, 'God. We all have great faith on you. My wife fell ill four months ago. Any treatment did not improved her health. She is more emaciated. She is determined to take your darshan. She can not come so far. Can we request you to come. “ Maharaj's calm but radiant eyes were full of compassion, “ We will leave for Pune tomorrow” exclaimed Maharaj. Sudaradevi was not surprised about Maharaj’s kindness. Seeing Maharaj came home, judgesaheb's wife got up and greeted Maharaj with her weak hands. Maharaj blessed her. Her eyes were full. Now, I will take my last breath happily and peacefully. Within a few days, she passed away peacefully.

Adhyay 11 - Yati Pariksha (Test by Yati)

Maharaj was stationed at Shri Kshetraraj Trimbakeshwar town. Surrounded by beautiful Bramhagiri mountain range and birthplace of India’s one of longest river Godavari, Tryambakeshwar is world famous for Jyotirlinga and worlds only shivling without the upper circular mound. It is also known for Nathpanth Bhushan Shri Nivruttinath, the eldest brother of Shri Dyaneshwar. During Ashadhi Ekadashi, a huge festival gets conducted at Nivruttinath temple where lakhs of Varkari’s meet every year. Do visit Tryambakeshwar and experience the divine power of Shiv Shankar once in life time.

Coming to Trimbakeshwar in that way did not happen as per the wishes of Maharaj. It was caused by Trimbakeshwar’s rich Tatyasaheb Joglekar and Vaman Bhau Wad of Nashik. This congregation had come to Pune for some work. With a heart full of faith and devotion, he requested the Maharaja to come to Trimbakeshwar. How can a devout Maharaj say no? He bade farewell to the people of Pune and came to Nashik with the devotees. After resting for a week in the holy land sanctified by the presence of Lord Ramchandra, Maharaj Shrimant Narayanrao Kashinath came to Tyambakeshwar with Upadhyay Tatyasaheb Joglekar.

After visiting Trimbakaraja, he experienced the realm of Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh. He went around Brahmagiri and traced the self-realization of the retired Gyandevadi Bhavadas. Here the maharaja felt complete satisfaction. He was not aware of the occasional fatigue of his body in the transcendental routine of daily rituals and charity. Maharaj's stay was in the spacious palace of Joglekar. As the caretaker of the temple, Shrimant Joglekar paid as much attention to the arrangement of Shri Tyambakaraja as he did to the arrangement of Maharaj.

It was four o'clock in the afternoon. Maharaj finished his daily pooja. And as usual, started reciting Vishnu Sahastra Nama. A total of eleven citations were to be made. He was walking around. At the same time, he started leaning against the wall for a few moments, thinking that he would be able to stand against the wall and then complete the circumambulation. He also leaned against the wall and fell down unconscious. There was a window opening from the outside to the wall where Maharaj thought of taking the support. The wall and the window panes were painted the same color. The window was closed but only its panels were pulled out so the maharaja did not notice the difference between the wall and the window. As soon as everybody saw Maharaj lying down, everyone in the castle came down and laid him down on the bed and immediately started treatment. It was a long time but Maharaj was still unconscious. So everyone was scared of the treatment.

Seeing that it was not being used, some people rushed to Nashik and asked the well-known Vaidya Shri. Bivalkar. This Dhanvantari, put all his skill to the test, after few hours, the heartbeat of all became calm because the Maharaja had opened his eyes. By now, telegram was sent to Indore. Seeing that Maharaj was not coming to his senses soon, three or four people had telegraphed to Sundaradevi thinking that something bad was happening, as she was still in Indore, Maharaj regained consciousness but could not move due to severe injuries. Aisaheb, don't be sad, Maharaj will be completely fine. I am going to work for him and Vaidya Bivalkar stayed back at Tryambakeshwar for Maharaj’s treatment. Seeing his immense hardships, everyone's heart was moved. Maharaj was completely cured.

When Maharaj’s health improved, he told everyone about the idea of spending some time in Nashik. Everyone agreed. Maharaj came to Nashik in the month of Chaitra in the year 1884.

With gratitude and sense of duty for his love and devotion to the Maharaja, the Indore Sansthan arranged for the appointment of Sevekari and two maids and cash of Rs. 200 per month.

Once a strange Navas (vow) was paid. A lady promised, if obstacles in the marriage of her niece gets removed and she gets married then that lady vowed to break the coconut on the head of Devmamaledar. Strange devotees but with strong belief! Soon the niece got married. Now it was lady’s turn to complete the promise. She visited Mamledar but stumbled and was confused how she can break coconut on his head. Maharaj asked her to complete the promise. Finally, the nephew grabbed the coconut on Maharaj's head and brought it down. The coconut broke before it touched Maharaj's head. Everyone rejoiced Shri Yashwantrao Maharaj ki jai. Shraddhavan labhaye vijay

Shri. Nilkanth Mahadev Sahasrabuddhe, he had retired from the job of Sub-Registrar. Once Sahasrabuddhe and four or five people were sitting at the feet of the Maharaja and were discussing.

Sahasrabuddhe asked, “Maharaj, how do you do miracles? "

Maharaj replied, “I am a man as you, what miracle do I do? Miracles are performed by gods and invisible deities, spirits. What saints do is pray from heart to fulfil someone’s wish. Every action in this world has an effect. That is the fruit. Fruit like karma! Due to the sanctity of saints, sadhu yogis and the pure atmosphere around them, many deities and holy spirits are always present invisibly. People go to the saints and pray. Sometimes it happens that the saints bless the prayer of the seeker that your work will be done. A invisible deity or holy spirit believes that this blessing is a command to work and immediately goes to work and puts it to work. Others are not aware of it.”

Sahasrabuddha felt that electricity was shining through his body with the new realization that there are supremely virtuous Mahatmas and holy yogi spirits around Maharaj. He said, Maharaj, it is our great fortune that the service of your feet is happening to us. Everyone was satisfied. The presence of the Lord benefits us. May his grace be upon us. Why not? Maharaj said, God's grace is on all of us. Dwarkadhish went to Eknath Maharaj. There is no grace but service rendered. We pay it back consciously.

The conversation was interrupted by a sevak and said,’An Yatiraj has come. Yatiraj is saying no to food. Maharaj got up and came out. He saw a person with Gorgeous head in front, braided, saffron. There was a monk with only Kamandalu in his hand. Maharaj did not allow any saint, sage, yati to return without hospitality. It had become a part of his life cycle. Maharaj used to say that Namo Naraynay. But today he said “Namo Narayanai Vaikunthapate”

Maharaj requested, “Yatiraj, tell me your wish.” Yatiraj replied, “If you want to donate, I will tell you in person”

Who knows why he said in a loud voice, but Sahasrabuddhe thought that Yeti is a bit arrogant.

Yatiraj strongly told, “You would feel ashamed after hearing my wish in front of so many people, so stopped. Otherwise I would have begged loudly from the long courtyard”

Look at how rude it is to speak, I would have shouted from the front - that thought came to Sahasaddhe's mind. He urged them to keep quiet by telling Yati about Maharaj’s divinity

Maharaj told Yatiraja, “God. You should definitely say it here”

Yatiraj replied, “So give me your wife for one day” looking in the eyes of Maharaj

He said with a sharp look that the atmosphere became serious. Devotees gathered to one side, Sahasrabuddhe became angry. This Gora Gomta Sadhu is a Yogi or a Bhogi. This sadhu is a disguised demon.

Mahasati Sundaradevi and Rukmini Devi came, Maharaj said quietly. Rukmini, Yatiraja has asked for a will. The Mahasadhvi quietly exclaimed that the Atithi Devo Bhav and would give the donation requested by Devarshi with her grace, Maharaj told her incident. Rukmini Devi felt as if the universe was turning upside down for a moment but at another moment she said. Okay. 'Sundaradevi came to the temple. She was stunned by this unexpected test. Tears came to her eyes. In the dim light of the front, the idol of Lord Dattatreya was looking at Sundaradevi with admiring smiles. There were still tears in the eyes of the sadhvi. The light of Samai was moving through it. The idol was fading. At the place of idol there were three small babies. Sadhvi mentioned, I will be Anusaya for Yatiraj.

Mahasadhvi put kunkum and greeted all the gods and came out. Mahasadhvi placed her head at the feet of the Maharaja for the sanctity of Yatiraj standing up. At the same time, the Mangalsutra around her neck rested on the feet of the Maharaja for a few moments. After greeting Sundaradevi Yatiraja, the whole congregation was stunned.

Karma-Akram-Nishkam Karma, Maharaj recited this Gita verse and continued the medidation.

After a while Sundaradevi returned home.

As Sundaradevi started telling, everyone started listening. I followed Yatiraj. We started going through the Ganges (In Nasik, Godavari is also called as Ganga). Yatiraj was walking briskly.

My speed slowed down and we fell apart. He never looked back or uttered a single word. I heard a soft call from Chinchwan, “Sadhvi Blessed are you both, mother go back this is your Son Yatiraj’s wish” and those three babies appeared in manchakshu with tripund and tilkas on their head .

Maharaj said, “Yatiraja Prabhu Dattatrey, today you came home and asked for alms, you gave strength. God, you have taken the test and you only have passed us in the test. Jai Jagatnatha, Jagadbharta, Lakshmipati Namostute.”

Sahastrabuddhe said, ‘We, the unfortunate. Maharaj, have brought the Lord before us in front of us and we failed to recognize’

All spent the whole night in hymns and discourses, but Sahasrabuddhe could only hear Maharaj’s words,’ As the mother runs to the child, the Lord goes to the devotee’

Adhyay 12 - Persuasion to Gajanan Maharaj

Gajanan Maharaj stayed in Akkalkot for a few days in the company of Shri Swami Samarth.

Due to yoga, he had elevated himself. Swami Samarth told Baba to roam alone and also to meet Dev Mamledar at Gangaghat. Swami told Baba, ‘Mamledar will recognize him as soon as you greet him. Orient yourself there for a month with Mamledar and then run away and stop at Shegaon. No name, People will say that name will be yours!’

Gajanan Maharaj came to Nashik and sat on Gangaghat. After taking darshan of Kapaleshwar Mahadev,he went for Kalaram Darshan. Kodandadhari Vaidehinath Prabhu Shri Ram was very happy to see Baba. Pujari was shocked. Because when this filthy sadhu (Gajanan baba) came to the temple, the big bell in the temple rang automatically. He was thinking about how the bell rang when no one else was in the temple at that time. By that time a bright light shone from the temple and when Baba bowed his head in front of Shri Ram, the light shone entered both the eyes of the same sadhu. Thinking that this must be a great yogi, Pujari immediately came out and visited Baba. Baba left swiftly and crossed the Godavari. As per the orders of Swami Samarth, Baba went to meet Devmamledar. Devmamaledar was sitting on the front porch. Baba without saying anything, leaned to put his head at the feet of the Devmamledar. Holding Baba's shoulder Mahraj said, 'Don't do younger brother. Gurubandhu needs to be hugged. Gurumauli Swami wants to give you association. Anantkoti Dattatrey cosmic hero Sreesadguru Swami Samarth has passed away and we need to continue the journey. ‘ Baba was very happy.

Gajanan Maharaj was enjoying the companionship of Maharaj. Maharaj said “ Baba, you should stay with us forever. Nashik will shine.”

Baba said, “He would like to stay, however Swami Samarth’s order is to move to Shegaon after a month’”

When Baba and Maharaj were discussing knowledge, trkalgyani Maharaj suddenly said, ‘Chandori’s Narayanswamy has sent a devotee. Everyone started looking outside. A householder in his fifties was coming’ Maharaj said to him, 'Yes, you have come from Chandori. He replied ‘Yes’ and saluted.

The householder's eyes filled with tears, and he began to speak. 'I am Falgune, a resident of Sinnar, age of 53, I am a Police Inspector. I have no children, so I went to Narayan Swamy. He told me to go to Sadguru Yashwantrao Mamledar. You are an intuition. Please fulfill the wish of this devotee’. Maharaj gave him prasad and inspector had left happily.

A young woman was crying on the bank of the Godavari because her golden ornament had fallen into the deep water. She was crying out. Karunasagar Maharaj put his hand in the water and immediately took it out and told her and go to your home Dindori happily. She was very happy to get her name written ornament, greeted Maharaj again and again and started on her way.

After a few days, the floods came and many visitors got stuck in the building on the other side of the river. Despite their strong desire to visit the Maharaja, there was no route. To the surprise, Maharaj was standing in front of them in that building and everyone took the darshan. Later they realized Maharaj gave them darshan even being on other side of the river.

About a month later, Gajanan Baba said goodbye to Maharaj. There were tears in the eyes of both of them. There were tears in the eyes of Supreme Yogi’s. Baba hugged Maharaj and started to cross the Godamai.

Adhyay 13 - Concluding Incarnation

As Devmamledar completely devoted his life for the well being of citizens, the rest was rare for him.

The schedule of Gangasnan, Shri Ramdarshan, Pradakshina, Dan, Dharma, Annadan started taking impact on health. The time was moving ahead. Noone can stop the time. In 1887, Gudi Padwa was passed. Madhav Narayan Deshpande was sitting in front of the Maharaj. He requested for outstation visit for couple of months to arrange and set the work properly.

Upon Madhav pant’s request, Maharaj replied “ You stayed with us for so many years with love and affection. Why do you want to leave us for seven or eight months now?”

This message came to Madhavpant like a lightning Madhavapant was shattered. By staying in the company of Maharaj, he could recognize even the short words of Maharaj now. Maharaj's sentence cut off his heart. He thought from many angles, but it didn't make any other sense. What after seven or eight months, did not dare to think of the next terrible thing

After a few days, Maharaj started feeling more weak and his legs became more swollen. The words started become unclear.

Thus Diwali passed. After four or five days, he told everyone to stay in Nashik. Maharaj even called his brothers to Nasik.

The doctors reassured him on his getting well but Maharaj's every suggestion was for Nirvan. When Sundaradevi started fasting, Maharaj said, “ Goddess, Our avatar work is over”. Swallowing Awandha, she said, 'Maharaj, I did not ask for anything in life. I got what I wanted without asking. I did not regret what I did not get. By your grace, everyone is a child for us. Your association is the cause of all eternal happiness. It is by virtue of many births, I became your better half. Your association should never be ended. This is my first and last wish to you.”

Maharaj replied "Goddess, I bless you our eternal association. You will soon accompany me. Body and soul are not separated for a long time. I will be with you, forever!”

There were tears of sorrow, there was assurance of eternal companionship, and there was the fruit of honor.

Kirtan Buwa had come from Satara. Maharaj asked him to perform kirtan. At Sarvasiddha Trayodashi Maharaj stood in front of Narsinh Narayan and finally said, "Coming back to you after fulfilling the duties that you gave. Narayana, you are the eternal for us. Om Namo Naraynay"

Maharaj was walking as if the step of the last preparation. Almighty nature and time was doing its duty. The face faded. Deshpande quickly got Vaidyaraj Bhivalkar and started the medication. Then Wamanrao took Wad and Deshpande out and said. 'Maharaj has got typhoid fever. Maharaj should stop giving darshan in such a state.

Maharaj said in a weak voice, "Don't forbid anyone, don't send devotees back. They will not get this opportunity again" .

The news that Maharaj was ill, spreaded like a wild fire. People started coming in droves. No one could come very close to Maharaj. But Maharaj would look at him with grace and devotees returned satisfied. 'Maharaj, if you wish, take sannyasa so that you will get the satisfaction of completing the Ashram Dharma,' Maharaj told him. 'Brother, we never had any desire. We came from Narayani's order. The religion was to be shown. He wanted to show it alive”

Ten days have passed. At the dawn of the sunrise, Vaidyaraja told all of them to bring Maharaj down from the floor. Everyone was standing around. It was the morning of December 11th. Sarvajinram Sanvatsar was witnessing the Lord Maharaj. Abasaheb was sitting with his knees down and Maharaj's lips were moving. Naming continues. He gently took Maharaj's head on his lap. The recitation of Shrimad Bhagwat Gita and Shri Vishnu Sahasranama was going on. 72 years of Mahatma completed his Jivan Yadnya and started his journey for Vaikuntha .

A radiant sun disappeared. Pandharinath Vitthal and Lord Vishnu were ready to embrace Maharaj.

There was only one commotion. Thousands of hearts were broken and eyes began to flow. The sea of people became one with the sea of mourning. Sundaradevi fell unconscious due to grief. Vaidyaraja, he did the work of bringing her back to consciousness. After a while Sundaradevi's , she looked at Maharaj's seat and said, 'Maharaj, when will you fulfill my wish?' She was wearing a yellow dress, a green bodice, a green bracelet on her forehead and a kumkum in her hand. Her face was bright. When Vamanbhau and Abba saw this, they recognized that Sundaradevi was ready to go for Sati. They both approached her and made them aware of the law.

Lord Narayana did not keep Sundara Devi standing for long. Exactly two months later, Magh Vadya Ekadashi, on Tuesday morning, Sundaradevi left Ihe world and went to Maharaj. Another blessing was fulfilled; a promise of being forver together was kept.

At Nasik Gangaghat, Shri Yashwantrao Maharaj Dev Mamledar’s last rights were performed by great pundits, government delegates and ocean of devotees. While collecting Maharaj’s ashes, Shivling was found. This is kept at Yashwant Maharaj Samadhi Mandir over 130 years now.
